Volunteers Meeting Needs in Florida
Disaster Relief Update: OMN volunteers step up to help Hurricane Milton victims
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – On Mission Network Disaster Relief volunteers are actively engaged in Hurricane Milton relief efforts in the area and more are expected to join them in the next few weeks as the state recovers from the storm’s effects.
OMN affiliate Texans on Mission began feeding thousands of meals daily in the Tampa area Oct. 6 and concluded feeding operations there Oct. 18. In addition, a small combined group from Texas and Virginia have cleaned out several flooded homes.
According to On Mission Network spokesman John Hall, Texans on Mission’s Chief Mission Officer, several additional OMN teams are gearing up to respond.
“We have three teams coming in to serve this week, a total of 23 people,” he said. “The majority of these volunteers are coming from Virginia.”
Hall noted other OMN-affiliated teams are responding in the next few weeks, including a local Florida church team conducting a large-scale “Serve Day.” A team from the largest church in the OMN-affiliated Charis Fellowship network also expects to commit teams to recovery efforts in the first three weeks of November.
On Mission Network leaders plan to extend recovery efforts through Nov. 20, said Hall.
The On Mission Network is a nationwide collection of Christ-centered ministry partners who equip and send out volunteers to provide disaster relief and generational impact through sustainable locally sourced development. Together, thousands of volunteers follow Christ’s model of ministry to transform lives and communities that are facing overwhelming circumstances.
